Sunday 01 12 2019

Our minister Rev Alan Jenkins led our morning Communion Service for the first Sunday of Advent 2019.

His subject was “Behind the mist, the sun waits” – a line taken from a poem in a book from the Iona Community.

He talked about being able to see majestic mountains when the weather is fine, but having to believe they are there when hidden by cloud. He also talked about the moment an airplane breaks through the cloud cover to reveal the sun shining above, and those times when we view a sunset that breaks through below the clouds before it disappears beyond our horizon, and how these images relate to our faith in Jesus, who is always there – whether we can see him or not.

As this was a Communion Service, our Junior Church spent the morning at their own activities and came back into church at the end of the service with Christmas decorations they had made.

You can hear his sermon here.
